What is Suhuruliya
In an endeavor to promote the social and economic empowerment of rural women in Sri Lanka through the use of ICT-enabled entrepreneurship, the Information and Communication Technology Agency (ICTA) initiated the “Suhuruliya” program a few years ago. Recognizing the importance of this cause, the Ministry of Technology, the Ministry of Child and Women Affairs, and META joined forces with ICTA in 2022 to support and empower 2,000 rural female entrepreneurs through the Suhuruliya Program on Digital Marketing.
This collaborative effort garnered remarkable attention, attracting 2,200 female entrepreneurs who eagerly participated in the program held across all 24 districts of Sri Lanka. The program’s primary focus was to provide practical training on digital marketing tools and platforms, emphasizing their effective utilization for business growth. Participants received hands-on guidance, enabling them to grasp the strategies and techniques necessary to harness the power of digital marketing.
The Suhuruliya program, with its comprehensive digital marketing training and subsequent technology diffusion initiatives, stands as a shining example of collaborative efforts to uplift rural women entrepreneurs in Sri Lanka. By equipping them with the necessary knowledge and tools, this program has paved the way for their increased economic independence and success in the digital era.
